Characters everywhere…

I was in a park today working on another project, and we walked around through the crowd pushing the limits of our characters. We made our physical gestures more extreme and our interactions more specific. At first, it felt forced to live in a heightened state amidst reality. It felt like I would get “caught” for “acting.” But as I was playing the exaggerated part of a snotty teenage textaholic, I got a threatening look from a rival teenage princess letting me know I should not cross into her territory. It reminded me that, especially in New York, characters are everywhere. People are ready to accept the reality of those around them, as long as they are grounded in that reality. If we commit to bold character choices and live through them, those characters will be real. As long as we stay connected and engaged, we can live in the extremes of human behavior without coming across as false. Let’s be as bold as possible tomorrow night to test the boundaries of what is believable!
